Weekly inspiration to live a more positively simple life

Hi Reader,

Does anyone know you read this newsletter week in and week out?
I'm going to be honest with you, not even I know for sure who reads this – I just can't trust the stats!

There are so many things in life that happen quietly (like this newsletter!).
Unseen. Unspoken. Just…there. For you. For me.

And yet, on the other side, there’s this pull, the urge to show certain parts of our lives. Something we did. Something we own. Something that might earn us a bit of respect, credibility…or approval.

So today's quote is actually a question:

If you couldn't tell anyone about this,
would you still choose it?

Maybe it’s an expensive watch.
A pair of trainers.
A holiday somewhere far away.
A university name.
The car you drive (or the bicycle you ride!).
The place you live.

Now imagine this:

No one knows the watch is expensive.
No one knows you travelled.
No one knows where you studied.
No one knows what you drive or where you live.

No one knows.

Would you still choose exactly the same things?

The truth is, a lot of what we do quietly signals something to others.
Who we are. What we value. Where we belong.

And I’m guilty of this too!

For me, it was university. I wanted the name, the kind that brings instant respect and credibility.
But if no one ever knew where I studied…would I have made the same choice if name-dropping wasn't an option?

Or would I have chosen something more aligned, more meaningful…more me?

Without the shortcut of recognition, we’d have to build things differently.
More slowly. More honestly. And 100% more uncertainly.

But maybe also more authentically.

There’s something quite liberating in that, isn’t there?

Because it shifts the question from:
“What does this say about me to others?”

To:
“What does this actually do for me?”

So here’s an invitation for today and the week ahead:

Pause and notice the why behind your choices.

Are you drawn to it because you truly value it…
or because of what it represents to others?

No judgment. Just awareness.

And that alone can change everything.

With positivity (and nothing else),
Lucy
